Ist das weit? means 'is it far?'. Weit means far; the opposite is nah, near. It's a very short and useful question right after asking for directions.

neben der Bank shows location: 'next to the bank'. Here Bank is feminine, die Bank, which becomes neben der Bank in the dative.
